Emery hated working with an audience. It was one of the reasons why he disliked outdoor crime scenes so much. The bystanders could be kept only so far away by yellow tape. At least if a crime scene was indoors the bystanders were stopped by solid walls.

It aggravated him even more when wardens, who supposedly had a job to do at a crime scene took the place of civilian bystanders. Was magic really so fascinating that anyone nearby had to stop and watch?

After he nearly collided with Sergeant Grant for a third time, Emery snapped, “Something you need to say, Sergeant?”

The man considered for several moment before he replied, “It’s going to rain all week, just about.”

“I’ll be sure to carry my umbrella,” Emery snapped. “Now get out of my way.”
