“Gutenliebe, two miles,” Emery read softly. He smiled over at his brother and said, “That’s where the Helms family moved to so Althea’s Dad could be closer to the hospital.”

“We’re going to visit them, and stay for a little while so Mom and Dad can go to the city,” Miles said nervously. “They’ll call the Helms’ when they get there.” He’d repeated the same thing every time they passed a road sign.

“We’ll be there soon, Mi. Don’t be scared,” Emery assured him. Emery was more excited than scared, but Miles didn’t like new things. He caught up his younger brother’s hand and scampered down the road toward the town. It wouldn’t be long. If they hurried they would arrive before lunchtime.
